Moonlighting
Sheriff Bouchard’s $130,969 annual salary (a 30% jump from when he first took office) isn’t his only source of income:
Sheriff Bouchard has been criticized for using his past position as the chairman of a State Senate insurance committee to land himself work on the board of an insurance company (Jackson National Life) that has paid him as much as $60,000/yr. while he has served as the Oakland County sheriff. A leading government watchdog group (Center for Public Integrity) argued Bouchard’s arrangement constituted a conflict of interest. (The Associated Press, October 15, 2006; Detroit Free Press, August 4, 2006 and October 16, 2006)
While serving as sheriff, Bouchard continues to own a private company: Bouchard & Co.
